We operate an appointment system for all routine appointments with the Doctors and the Practice Nurses. Surgeries are available every weekday from 8am to 6:30pm (and from 7am on Wednesdays). We also offer telephone consultations for advice with our Doctors and Nurses throughout the week.
In addition to our routine daytime appointments, Stewart Medical Centre patients can now access GP and Nurse appointments until 8pm on weekdays and on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays between 9am to 5pm. These appointments are offered at practices across Buxton and High Peak as part of the national Extended Access initiative to improve patient access to primary care services.
Appointments will be available at Stewart Medical Centre every Thursday evening, with appointments available on other weekday evenings at other local practices as follows:

To book a daytime, evening or weekend appointment with one of our GPs, Practice Nurses or Healthcare Assistants, please telephone the surgery on 01298 22338. Daytime GP appointments and blood test clinics can also be booked online. If you would like to register for online patient access, please ask at reception.
Because our Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants have varying specialisms, their appointments must only be booked by telephone so that our receptionists can direct you to the correct nurse. In order to do this, they are likely to ask the reason for your appointment.
Our GP appointments are scheduled for 10 minutes, if you have several issues that you wish to discuss with your GP, you are advised to ask for a longer appointment when you book with our receptionists.
Patients who need to be seen as an emergency will be assessed in the first instance by a telephone triage with our on call GP who will ensure that you are seen, or receive advice from, the most appropriate healthcare professional.
We aim to see patients who need a routine consultation within 5 working days; for those who need an emergency consultation we would arrange an appointment on the same day. For patients who wish to see a specific GP or Nurse of their choice we aim to arrange an appointment within 10 working days although this will be dependent on their availability which may be affected by their working rota, annual leave arrangements or unexpected absence.
If possible please try to telephone reception before 10:30 if you require a home visit.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed.
A Doctor or Nurse may phone you prior to the visit to identify the severity of the problem so that we can plan and prioritise our home visits.
You can be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
It is our policy that a chaperone will be offered to all patients who are going to have an intimate examination during their consultation. If requested, a specially trained member of the practice staff will be present in the room during the examination to act as a chaperone.
Chaperones will be members of the nursing team or specifically trained members of the surgery team. If a trained chaperone is not available, you may be asked to rearrange your consultation.
Occasionally there will be undergraduate nursing and medical students from Sheffield University undertaking their GP placement with us. Patients will be made aware if a student is going to be part of their consultation. Students are always closely supervised by GPs.
